The Way, The Truth, & The Life Part 1

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – Jn 14:6. These words spoken by Jesus are both emphatic and exclusive. With this statement alone, He forever blows out of the water any notion that there are many ways to heaven. Man, with his limited knowledge and finite mind, likes to come up with his own philosophies about this verse, as well as the rest of Scripture. “Surely this must mean something else,” they would say. Let me assure you, Jesus said what He meant, and meant what He said. And if one wants to call himself a disciple of Jesus Christ, a “Christ-ian”; then by definition, he is to listen to and obey what Jesus says – not apologize for it.

The word “way” in the Greek means “the road, the route, the highway, the means”. Jesus said He is the highway to heaven. He is the means by which you get to The Father. He is the route you take to everlasting life. There are not many roads, there is one road. You may sincerely be on your own “path to enlightenment”, but be not deceived; if that path is not The Way, Jesus Christ, it will end with the eternal damnation of your soul. If you don’t like that, take it up with God; He’s the One that said it (Jn 3:36).

Jesus is the only way to The Father. You will not get to Him any other way (Act 4:12). Jesus said He is The door, the entry way into heaven (Jn 10:1-9). The outer gate (Mt 7:13-14)of the tabernacle courtyard, the door (Jn 10:9) into the holy place, and the veil (Heb 10:20) into the most holy place, were all types of Jesus Christ. Their colors were red, blue, and purple embroidery; symbolic of blood and royalty (Rev 19:13, 16). Thomas a Kempis wrote “Without the way, there is no going; without the truth, there is no knowing; without the life, there is no living.”

Jesus is the right way (2Pt 2:15, 1Sam 12:23, Act 13:10). This means that if you are not going the way of Jesus, then you are going the wrong way. Jesus left no middle ground. He said you are either for Him or against Him (Lk 11:23). In society today, moral relativism has become the norm for many, even inside the church. “Who am I to say what’s right and wrong? You believe your way, and I’ll believe my way. As long a we’re all sincere, that’s what really matters.” Wrong. Hitler, Stalin, & Mao Tse-tung were sincere; yet they murdered over 120 million people collectively. There is a right way, and there is a wrong way. If God says something is wrong, then it is wrong; if He says that it is right, then it is right.

Jesus is the way of truth, and teaches the way of truth (2Pt 2:1-2, Mar 12:14). Jesus is the way of righteousness, and has become our righteousness (2Pt 2:20-22, 1Cor 1:30). Jesus is the way of life (Heb 10:19-22, Prov 15:24, 12:28, 10:17). In Jeremiah 21:8, God said “Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.” The Bible clearly teaches us the way of life. It is Jesus, of course. Yet, if you want to choose the way of death, then that’s what you will have.

Jesus is the way into the most holy place (Heb 9:8-14). Before Jesus came, that way was not known; but now it is known. Jesus is the way into the presence of God (Heb 10:19). His Blood bought us the right to use His Name, which gives us direct access to The Father. When Jesus cried “It is finished!” on the cross, God tore the veil of the temple from top to bottom (Mt 27:51); showing us we now have the right as the children of God to come boldly unto the throne of grace (Heb 4:16).

Jesus is also the way of escape (1Cor 10:13). Jesus is your means to get out of any temptation. He is The Living Word, and He spoke The Word to defeat satan during His wilderness temptation (Lk 4:1-14). You must speak forth the Truth to obtain the victory (Job 22:28).

Lord willing, we will continue this next week. Until next time, rejoice in The Lord!

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – Jn 14:6. Last week pointed out that this statement by Jesus was emphatic and exclusive. We saw how Jesus is the only way to The Father: the highway, the road, the route, the means. We learned that Jesus is the right way; the way of truth, the way of life, the way of righteousness. He is also the way into The Most Holy Place, and our way of escape. Jesus is the way maker, the bondage breaker, and the guilt, sin, & shame taker!

Today we will look at the second fact revealed in this verse, which is that Jesus is The Truth. He is not a truth; He is not one of many truth’s; He is not a type of truth. He is the truth. There are many lies, yet one truth. We say someone has either told a lie, or told the truth. Notice it’s a lie, or it’s the truth. The Roman governor Pilate once asked a question of the utmost importance, which was “What is truth?” (Jn 18:38). Little did he know that he was looking right at it. Every human being should desire the answer to this question; and may I say, I have some excellent news for those who ask it. The answer is found in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, The son of The living God.

What a privilege it is to know the Truth! To know Jesus! To know The Word of God! We know The Bible, The Word of God, is truth (Jn 17:17). It is called the scripture of truth

(Dan 10:21), and the law of truth (Ps 119:42); and we know that Jesus is The Word, and the Word is God, and was made flesh (Jn 1:1, 14). If you know The Word, then you know Jesus; which means you know the truth! Let me point out, that when I say “know”, I mean to have an intimate knowledge of, have a relationship with. There are lot’s of people that “know” (have head knowledge) of the Word, but they don’t “know” (have relationship with) Jesus. All your head knowledge means little if you have no fruit-bearing relationship with The Savior (Lk 6:46).

We worship God in truth, by worshiping God in Christ (Jn 4:23-24). It’s the sacrifice of Jesus that gives us the right to come into God’s presence to worship, just like it does to pray (Heb 10:19, Col 3:17). Obeying the truth (Jesus) purifies your soul (1Pt 1:22), and shows that you know Jesus (1Jn 2:4). The truth is what brought you forth (caused you to be born again) (Jam 1:18). The truth (Jesus) dwells in the believer, and will be with him forever (2Jn 1:2, Ps 100:5). You know the truth (Jesus), when you abide in the word (Jn 8:31-32). You will never know Jesus anymore than you know His word. You must: 1. Continue in God’s Word 2. Then you become His disciple 3. Then you will know the truth 4. Then the truth will make you free.

You must love the truth (Jesus) to be saved (2Thess 2:10-12). If you don’t love the truth, then you have pleasure in unrighteousness. Jesus said you are either for Him, or against Him (Mt 12:30). Since Jesus and His Word are one, if you are against His Word (The Bible), then you are against Him. Don’t say you love Jesus, but hate The Bible: that is not possible for a sane person to do. The truth is also your protection from the lies of satan (Ps 91:4, Eph 6:16). In these last days, we must know the truth, and stand firmly on it.

I can’t stand it when these so called Christian leaders fumble with their words when asked point blank if they believe Jesus is the only way to The Father. “Well, it’s not my place to say…”. Stop!…Wrong!… It is your place to say! That is your job! You should answer that question the same way Jesus would, with a resounding Yes! Get some intestinal fortitude, and speak forth plainly and clearly the oracles of God like your supposed to! (Pro 8:7, 12:19, 2Cor 2:17, 1Pt 4:11). Hallelujah to the Lamb of God that we know the truth! What peace! What comfort! What hope! What joy! Let us truly show Christian love, by speaking The Word of Truth! Until next time, rejoice in The Lord! Next week: part 3

The Way, The Truth, & The Life Part 3

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – Jn 14:6. Over the last two weeks we have discussed the fact that Jesus Christ is The Way and The Truth. He is not a way or a truth. He is not one of many ways, nor one of many truths. He is the only way to The Father. He is the highway, the gate, the door, the route, the means. You will not get to The Father, but by The Son. He is The Truth, The living Word of God: God made flesh. You cannot say Jesus is one of many truths; because if anyone claims to speak the truth, yet contradicts what Jesus says, he is speaking a lie. There is one truth; and His name is Jesus.

This week, we will finish up this series by looking into the fact that Jesus is The Life. We see in Genesis 2:7 that God is the original giver of life. Life is His alone to give. Jesus confirmed this in John 10:18, when He said that no one takes His life from Him. He lays it down, and He takes it up again. No one gives life to, nor takes life from, Almighty God. He is the life giver. In John 1:1-4, we see that in Jesus, The living Word of God, is life. He came to give us, the human race, eternal life. Not just life, but abundant life (Jn 10:10)! The word abundant means “above and beyond, more than necessary, excessive”. Praise God, Jesus gives us abundant life!

Jesus is our life (Col 3:4, Act 17:28). Jesus is the bread of life (Jn 6:48). Intimate knowledge of Jesus is eternal life (Jn 17:3). Jesus is the light of life (Jn 8:12). Jesus is the Prince of life (Act 3:15). Jesus is the Word of life (1Jn 1:1). Jesus gives the water of life (Rev 22:1, 17). In John 4:14, Jesus tells the woman at the well, that whoever will drink of the water He gives will never thirst again! There’s an old commercial that says “Snickers satisfies”, but we all know it only lasts for a little while, until you get the next grumbly in your tumbly. Jesus, on the other hand, truly satisfies; and when you drink the Water of Life, you’ll never thirst again!

Jesus possesses The Spirit of life (Rev 11:11, Rom 8:2). Jesus owns The Book of Life (Rev 21:27). It is of the utmost importance that your name is written in The Book of Life. However, it is The Lamb’s book. The Lamb of God is Jesus (Jn 1:29). You don’t get your name written in His book, without talking to Him first. Don’t think you can come into God’s presence and bypass The Lamb. In the Old Testament Tabernacle, the sacrifice was the first thing you saw when you came into the courtyard. There was no way around it. It was, of course, a type of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the tree of life (Rev 22:2, 14; Gen 3:22). Whoever eats of that tree lives forever. Taste and see that The Lord is good (Ps 34:8). The Bible makes it clear that Jesus is the life. John 3:36 says “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” 1Jn 5:11-12 says “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. The life of God is in Jesus, so if you have Jesus, you have life. If you don’t have Jesus, you don’t have life. No Jesus, no life. Know Jesus, know life.

I pray this series has strengthened your faith, and encouraged you to stand strong on The Word of Truth. If Jesus is not who He says He is, then I’d be the first to throw my Bible in the trash, and stop wasting my time in church. I’d encourage you to eat, drink, and be merry; for tomorrow you die (1Cor 15:32). But I can’t do it, because I know The Truth. Jesus is more real than anything your five senses can handle. The Bible is The living Word of God, and The absolute Truth. Jesus is who He says He is: The Way, The Truth, and The Life. Until next time, rejoice in the Lord! (Phil 4:4)
